The posting pit

Do you often find yourself posting into a bottomless pit? Tired of receiving the email responses "Thank you for your application, but we are moving forward with other applicants," well, you are not alone. How much time should you spend online looking for work?

Whether you are unemployed or just scoping the job market, things are quite different now. With AI sifting through resumes and many qualified applicants being overlooked what is the resolve? I applied for over 300 jobs and have only had 3 interviews, no dice. I would spend at least two hours a day applying, making calls, networking, checking LinkedIn, even invested in the ATS (Applicant Tracking System) to no avail.

I am tired of looking! And don't get me started on remote work, almost impossible to find. Some sites let you know many applicants have already applied. For one position, there were at least 500 applicants. Unless Taylor Swift sang about my qualifications, chances are the resume will not be read.

It has been over a year since my last contract role, which given inflation, helped tremendously. While it can be a kick in the gut, you must stay focused and have a plan. I know that if a job requires me to answer ridiculous questions or complete unnecessary skill assessment tests, knowing that they will not read it, I will move on. That is how I am managing this process.

It is okay to take a break. Plan activities around job posting, this is a good diversion to the stress. Incorporate self-care activities into your routine to avoid burnout and maintain motivation. Whether it's exercising, pursuing hobbies, or spending time with loved ones, striking a balance between job hunting and personal well-being is essential for long-term success.

I wish you all the best in your journey!
